On Saturday 12th August Brockwell Swimmers started our Channel Challenge by attempting to swim the same distance collectively at the Lido (this is before our five person relay team who will be swimming Dover to France on Monday).
Fusion kindly supplied a lane for the event and swimmers started at 9am with a deadline of 12 noon, so the clock was ticking for our eighteen strong team. Special mention must go to Dennis Mooney who swam 100 lengths, Michael Keane an impressive 140 lengths and Vanora Fung an incredible 160 lengths!
In total we smashed our Channel goal of 21 miles and instead swam 450 laps (or 900 lengths) which is equal to 28 miles. That’s Dover to France and heading back again. Well done all and a great omen to our five strong team on Monday.
And don’t forge both swims are raising money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, who help protect so many swimmers around the UK every year. It provides, on call, a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service to 100 miles out from the coast of the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland and a beach lifeguard service on over 200 beaches in England. The RNLI continues to rely on donations and legacies for its income so please donate if you have done so already by clicking here.
