On the 8th June eight Brockwell Swimmers, Cindy, Eleanor, Ellie, Geri, Han, Laura, Richard and Sue, participated in the Shepperton 24 hour swim relay. This challenging event is run by Level Water to raise money to help children with disabilities get swim lessons. Over £130,000 was raised and is one of five events happening across the UK this summer.
All the participants set up tents and campsites near the lakeside and teams split the swimming amongst themselves, taking shifts throughout the day and night. While sleep may have been severely lacking, the generally good vibes all around kept spirits high and the event fun. Brockwell Swimmers spent their time chatting, snacking, cheering each other on, making toasted marshmallows by the fire at midnight, and of course swimming.
The unofficial slogan of the race is “Swim. Sleep. Cake. Repeat.” which accurately sums up a very enjoyable weekend.
