Brockwell Lido The Brockwell Swimmers club is based at Brockwell Lido; an unheated open-air Lido in Herne Hill, South London, SE24. The pool is open all year for both Winter and Summers swimming. Challenging during the colder months and blissful on a hot sunny day. The Brockwell Swimmers club was formed in January 2016 by a group of Lido users keen to see more swimming activities at this historic South London landmark. The aims and objectives of the Club are to promote participation of the whole community in the sport of swimming. We work to facilitate and encourage the teaching, development and practice of good swimming both at the pool and open water. We also work with Lambeth Council and Fusion Management to ensure the continued accessibility of this public facility for the local community. As well as events at the Lido, the club organises indoor Water Polo and Swim Sessions at local indoor pools, as well as taking part in national and international club events and swims. We also organise Summer walk/swims, club socials and liaise with other swimming clubs.
A SLSC Thames Mile
On Friday evening, 17th July, Brockwell Swimmers joined the South London Swimming Club SLSC (Tooting Bec Lido) to swim their annual Thames Mile from Kingston Bridge to Teddington. This was a first for many, and luckily the conditions were perfect. The event has been running on and off since 1922 and is now exceedingly well organised […]
Cold Water Swimming Gala 22nd November
The Brockwell Cold Water Swimming Gala held on 8th February proved such a success we have put in an application to hold another on Sunday 22nd November. This is a much better month to run the event as the water will be a little warmer and this is also a less hectic time of year in the cold […]
Brockwell Swimmers go Walking 16th August
Having reviewed the book Wild Swimming Walks we thought it about time we tried one out. We have picked Walk number 16 from Shillingford to Didcot described as an easy 8.5 mile walk “with plenty of opportunities to swim in the River Thames, and optional visits to an Iron Age hill fort and a medieval abbey”. We’ll be meeting outside Paddington Station […]
Water Polo hits Brockwell with a Splash
The Lido’s first Water Polo evening proved to be a great success. Big thanks to Jim and Chris, our magnificent coaches, who managed turn a bunch of strangers into two almost convincing teams. Great Water Polo news… Fusion are letting us do it again 21st July, 8pm. Please tell all your friends. The more the merrier. Drinks afterwards […]
Kings Cross Pond Revisited
Looking for an excuse to revisit Kings Cross Pond, we booked a place on the Festival of Architecture Tour “Of Soil and Water” to find out a little more about London’s newest aquatic experience. Richard Meier (Argent Property Developers) led the walk explaining the site’s Victorian past and plans for the future. There was even a hint that the pool, like the […]
Tooting Lido Swimming Relays
An incredible turn out for the Mid Summer Relays at Tooting Bec Lido Swimming on Wednesday night. A total of 34 teams, each 4 strong, swam four lengths each, 16 in total. The strange thing though is the third swimmer actually does the last length. Weird maths. Brockwell Swimmers entered two teams: one in the 100-150 […]
