CASC Registration for Brockwell Swimmers

At a Special General Meeting on the 1st October members present voted in favour of CASC, Community Amateru Sport Club, status. This has now been approved by the Inland Revenue so if you were unable to make that meeting we thought we’d better explain what this means.

CASC registration letter

The Community Amateur Sports Club scheme was introduced in 2002 as an option for sports clubs to register with HMRC to receive ‘charity type’ tax reliefs. The South London Swimming Club at Tooting Lido is also a CASC.

To register, Brockwell Swimmers had to meet the following qualifying conditions:

  1. We are open to the whole community.
  2. We are organised on an amateur basis.
  3. Our main purpose is the provision of facilities for, and the promotion of and participation in, one or more eligible sports.
  4. We must not exceed the income limit.
  5. We meet the correct management conditions.
  6. We meet the location conditions.
  7. We have a suitable constitution.

Details of the qualifying conditions can be found here.

One of the immediate benefits has been getting our PayPal account back, which had been blocked because of PayPal’s uncertainty of our our tax status.

Registration also puts us on a firmer foundation when hiring facilities (we hope Fusion has taken note) and also approaching sponsors for future club events.

CASC may seem like just little word, but this has been a big step up for the club.
