As a local artist and regular swimmer at Brockwell Lido, Priscilla Watkins is fascinated by the patterns created by sunlight in the pool and the shadows cast from swimmers above. In her large oil paintings she uses light as a tool to create depth and drama between highlight and shade, capturing the ever-shifting sparkle in the water.
Priscilla wants her pictures to be full of the joy of colour and sun, and hopefully inspire more people to discover the wonders of our local lido. In the paintings the figures can seem vulnerable and lonely, but also free and floating in space giving them an emotional resonance.
“I want my pictures to show that ordinary life and an everyday activity like swimming can be full of mystery and poetry.”
As well as her large oil paintings, Priscilla also likes to experiment in a variety of mixed media including lino cut, mixed media collage and abstact work all linked by the theme of light and water.
