Winchelsea Rye Circular Swim/Walk

An unashamedly romantic 10 mile walk through the remnants of an ancient, half-abandoned town, across desolate marshes and past a ruined castle to the coast for a swim.

The historic towns of Rye and Winchelsea are famous for their cobbled streets, timber-framed houses and scenic marshland. But beyond the tourist trail some surprising stories await. There’s a harbour two miles inland, beaches in the middle of fields and a whole town that fell into the sea. Tides, waves and currents have created a unique and dynamic landscape. This walk explores how people have made a living from this place in a fascinating story of surviving and adapting to the forces of nature.

This walk/swim is taken from the fabulous Wild Swimming Walks published by Wild Things Publishing. Who produce a number of books with exciting places to explore both in the UK and abroad. Well worth investigating.

We’ll be meeting at St Pancras Station at 9:15am on Sunday 10th September to catch the 9:37am train to Ashford, then the 10:25am to Rye and arrive at 10:46am.
